Bio-based biocomposites as substitutes for plastics

What is biocomposite?
Bio-based biocomposite materials replace fossil raw materials in products traditionally made from plastics, such as baby and toddler products.
Bio-based products have a significantly lower carbon footprint – up to 80%.

Scandino products use a biocomposite that contains:

1. 58-63% bio-PE from sugar cane
2. 35-40% wood fibre from certified Nordic forests
3. 1-2 % of additives to improve properties

The wood used for biocomposites is sourced from the by-products of various pulp and wood product production processes.
In this way, wood is optimally utilised and the production of Scandino products does not require felling of trees.

The biocomposite has been developed and produced by Stora Enso.

Is biocomposite safe for children?

Skandino assures that the biocomposite is completely safe for children.
Children’s safety is Skandino’s most important value.
Skandino has had all the required chemical and mechanical tests carried out in certified laboratories and the products have received clean results.
The brand has also done a lot of additional voluntary testing and the products have passed all of them.

The biocomposite used in Skandino products is
